Metroid II: Return of Samus is a platform-adventure video game from the Metroid series, developed and published by Nintendo for its Game Boy handheld console in November 1991.
The game is the second installment in the Metroid series, following the original Metroid released in 1986.
It was remade as part of the 2004 compilation Metroid Prime Pinball.
In Metroid II: Return of Samus, players take control of bounty hunter Samus Aran as she searches for Metroids on planet SR388.
The objective of the game is to eliminate all Metroids found on SR388 while exploring caverns and tunnels filled with hostile creatures and environmental hazards.

Additionally, several minigames can be accessed by finding special items hidden throughout the world which reward players with extra lives or other bonuses if completed successfully.
Once all fifty Metroids have been eliminated from SR388, players are rewarded with a secret ending sequence depicting what happened next in the adventure before concluding with credits rolling over a still image taken at an earlier point in the game's story arc.
