Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf is an action-packed game for the Nintendo Game Boy released in 1995. Developed by Electronic Arts and Gremlin Graphics, it is a sequel to the original Desert Strike, which was released for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992. The game follows on from its predecessor as you play as a helicopter pilot tasked with completing missions in the Middle East against enemy forces.
The game features an overhead perspective, allowing players to view all of their surroundings. The goal of each mission is to complete objectives while avoiding enemy fire and other obstacles. These objectives can range from destroying enemy bases, rescuing hostages, or collecting items such as fuel tanks and medical supplies. Players must also be careful not to damage friendly buildings or personnel during their mission.
Players control their helicopter using the directional pad and two buttons; one for firing missiles and another for launching bombs. In addition, there are several special weapons that can be used including air-to-air missiles and air-to-ground rockets. On some levels there are also power-ups that can be collected which provide extra health points or ammunition for your weapons.
In addition to its single player mode, Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf also features a two player cooperative mode where two players can team up in order to complete missions together more quickly and efficiently. This mode gives both players access to all of their weapons, making it easier to take out enemies quickly without having to worry about who has what type of weapon available at any given time.
The graphics in Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf are fairly basic but still quite nice looking for a game released on the Game Boy console back in 1995. The colors are vibrant and the sprites animate well, giving it a cartoonish look that helps keep things visually interesting during gameplay sessions. The sound effects are also quite good with explosions sounding suitably loud when they occur on screen as well as voice clips from characters throughout each mission providing some additional atmosphere during gameplay sessions.
Overall Desert Strike: Return To The Gulf is an enjoyable top down shooter with plenty of action packed into its missions along with some nice looking visuals and sound effects. While it might not have aged particularly well compared to more modern day games on newer consoles, it still provides plenty of entertainment value if you’re looking for something different than your usual run of the mill shooters available today on modern systems like Xbox One or PlayStation 4
