SolarStriker is a shoot 'em up video game released in 1989 for the Nintendo Game Boy.
Developed by Minakuchi Engineering and published by Nintendo, it was the first original game for the Game Boy not based on an existing arcade or NES title.
SolarStriker is set in outer space, where players take control of a small fighter spacecraft and battle waves of enemies as they travel through seven different stages.
The player's goal in SolarStriker is to reach the end of each stage without being destroyed by enemy forces.
The game features two levels of difficulty: normal and hard.
On normal mode, the player can select one of three weapons at the start of each stage: a laser cannon, a homing missile, or a shield which will protect them from damage for a few seconds.
As they progress through each level, power-ups will appear which increase their weapon's power and allow them to temporarily fire multiple shots at once.
Additionally, bonus points can be earned by destroying certain objects within each level.
The enemies encountered throughout SolarStriker are varied and numerous; they range from small asteroids to large robotic ships that require multiple hits to destroy.
As players progress through each stage, they must contend with an ever-increasing number of enemies while avoiding their attacks and making use of their limited supply of ammunition.
To assist them in this task, several types of special items may appear during gameplay such as speed-boosting stars or shields that offer temporary invincibility against enemy fire.
SolarStriker also features two distinct boss battles at the end of every fourth stage; these are more difficult than regular enemies but once defeated will reward players with extra lives or other bonuses depending on their performance during the fight.
The final boss is located at the end of the seventh stage; upon its defeat, players will receive a high score ranking based on their performance throughout the game and will then have access to an extra bonus round where they can earn additional points if successful before returning to the main menu screen.
Overall, SolarStriker is an enjoyable shooter experience that provides plenty of challenge for experienced gamers while remaining accessible enough for newcomers to pick up quickly.
Its simple yet effective graphics give it a timeless quality while its fast paced action makes it easy to keep coming back for more punishment!
