Bonk’s Adventure is an action platformer game released in 1989 by Hudson Soft for the Nintendo Game Boy. The game stars Bonk, a caveman with a huge head and a small body, as he travels through various levels to rescue Princess Za from the evil King Drool. Bonk’s Adventure is part of the Bonk series which also includes two sequels, Super Bonk and Bonk’s Revenge.
In Bonk’s Adventure, players take control of Bonk as they navigate their way through seven different worlds filled with enemies and obstacles. Each world contains four stages that must be completed in order to progress through the game. As players make their way through each stage, they are able to collect food items that will give them points and energy-ups that will increase their health. Players also have access to special power-ups such as invincibility or a giant hammer that can break blocks.
In addition to the regular stages, there are also bonus rounds where players can earn extra points and items. These bonus rounds take place on a board game-like map where players move around collecting stars and other bonuses while avoiding traps set by King Drool’s minions.
The main objective of Bonk’s Adventure is to reach the end of each stage while defeating all the enemies along the way. At the end of each stage, a boss awaits which must be defeated in order to progress further into the game. Once all seven worlds have been completed, players face off against King Drool himself in an epic battle before finally rescuing Princess Za and completing the game.
Bonk’s Adventure has become one of the most beloved titles on Nintendo Game Boy due to its unique art style and simple yet challenging gameplay mechanics. The game has become something of a cult classic among retro gamers who often cite it as one of their favorite games from their childhood days spent playing on handheld consoles like Game Boy or Game Gear. It may not be as well known today as other classic titles like Super Mario Bros., but it still stands out as being one of the more memorable games released for Nintendo’s first ever handheld console system.
