Pitfall is a classic platformer game originally released for the Atari 2600 in 1982. Developed by Activision, this game has been ported to many different gaming systems over the years, including the Game Boy Color. Pitfall is one of the most iconic games of all time and has spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs.
In Pitfall you play as Harry, an intrepid explorer on a mission to retrieve 32 treasures from an underground cave system. You have 20 minutes to complete your task before time runs out and you must navigate treacherous terrain filled with pits, crocodiles, bats, scorpions, and other obstacles. To help you along your journey there are helpful items such as ladders and ropes that can be used to reach higher ledges or cross wide gaps. The ultimate goal is to collect all 32 treasures before time runs out.
The controls are simple; use the directional pad (D-pad) to move left or right, press ‘B’ to jump, and press ‘A’ to use any items that you may have picked up along your journey. As you progress through each level you will encounter various enemies that must be avoided or defeated in order to proceed forward. Some levels also feature bonus items that can be collected for extra points.
Pitfall is a challenging yet rewarding game that will test your reflexes and problem solving skills. The graphics are charmingly retro but still look great on today’s modern screens; they have aged surprisingly well over the years! The upbeat soundtrack adds energy to the action while sound effects like Harry’s grunts when he jumps add some much needed personality to the experience.
Overall Pitfall is an excellent game that should not be overlooked; it’s an essential piece of video game history! If you are looking for a classic platformer with plenty of challenge then look no further than Pitfall for the Game Boy Color!
