The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around since the 1980s, and they have captivated generations of fans ever since. The franchise has spawned comic books, cartoons, movies, video games, and even toys. Now, one of the most popular incarnations of the Turtles is available for Nintendo Game Boy Advance in the form of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This game allows you to take control of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael as they battle their way through New York City to save April O’Neil from the clutches of Shredder and his Foot Clan.
The game follows the classic side-scrolling formula that made so many other 8-bit games successful in their day. You must run and jump your way through various levels while fighting enemies such as Bebop and Rocksteady using an array of weapons ranging from swords to shurikens. Each Turtle has unique special moves that can be used against specific enemies as well as a powerful team attack that can be unleashed when all four turtles are together on screen. As you progress through each level you will find power-ups hidden inside breakable crates which can help restore health or increase your attack power. There are also secret areas which contain bonus items such as extra lives or invincibility stars that can make it easier to survive some of the tougher stages.
The graphics in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are colorful and vibrant with a cartoonish style reminiscent of the original cartoon series that aired in 1987. The music is upbeat and catchy with a few remixes thrown in for good measure. The sound effects are quite good too with lots of thuds and explosions when enemies are defeated or objects destroyed. The controls are fairly simple yet responsive making it easy to get into the action right away without having to learn too many complicated button combinations.
Overall Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an enjoyable game that captures much of what was great about its predecessors while introducing some new elements that keep it fresh and exciting even after all these years. Fans of side-scrolling action will enjoy taking control of the beloved heroes in a half shell as they fight their way through Shredder’s minions to save April O’Neil once again!
