Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2 is a tactical role-playing game developed by Banpresto and published by Atlus for the Game Boy Advance. It is the sequel to 2002’s Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation, and like its predecessor, it features an all-original cast of characters and mecha. The game was released in Japan on July 22, 2004.
The story follows the original cast of characters from the previous game as they continue their fight against their mysterious benefactors, known only as “the creators”. As before, the protagonists are part of a small squad of pilots, known as “Divine Crusaders”, who use specialized mecha called “Personal Troopers” to fight off alien forces that threaten Earth. This time around, however, they find themselves embroiled in an even greater conflict between two powerful factions – the Earth Federation Government and a group called “The Aerogaters”. With both sides vying for control of powerful ancient technology, it falls to the Divine Crusaders to protect both humanity and the planet itself from destruction.
Gameplay in Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2 remains largely unchanged from its predecessor. Players take control of a squad of up to six Personal Trooper units on a grid-based battlefield and must complete various objectives while defending themselves against enemy forces. The game also features a variety of new units such as flying troops and special weapons that can be used to gain an advantage over opponents. Additionally, players can now customize their units with parts found throughout the course of battle which can modify stats or even grant special abilities such as increased range or damage output.
In addition to new units and customization options, Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2 also introduces several new gameplay mechanics such as Pilot Points (PP) which are earned through battle and can be used to purchase upgrades for your team’s mechas or hire additional pilots; Support Attack which allows multiple units to attack at once; and Special Events which occur randomly during battle that will either help or hinder your progress depending on how you choose to respond them. Finally, there is also an extensive “Scenario Mode” which allows players to replay certain missions with different characters or mecha configurations in order to acquire additional rewards or unlock secret content within the game world.
Overall Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2 is a great sequel that builds upon its predecessor by adding more depth and complexity while still maintaining its classic tactical RPG gameplay style. The addition of new units, customization options and gameplay mechanics make this title feel fresh yet familiar at the same time; making it one of the best entries in this long running franchise. Whether you are a fan of strategy games or just looking for something different than what you usually play then you should definitely give this one a try!
