Rise of the Dragon is an adventure video game developed by Dynamix and published by Sierra On-Line for the Sega CD Mega-CD in 1994. It is a point-and-click adventure game that takes place in a cyberpunk future, where players take on the role of William “Blade” Hunter, a private investigator hired to investigate the death of Eliza Cassan, an exotic dancer found dead in her apartment with strange markings on her body. Players must explore the city, interrogate suspects, and use their detective skills to try to uncover what happened to Eliza.
The game begins with Blade Hunter being hired by local police captain Garrity to investigate the mysterious death of Eliza Cassan. The player is given a list of suspects to interview and locations to visit as they attempt to piece together what happened. As players progress through the story they will come across various obstacles such as puzzles and mini-games that must be solved in order to progress further.
The setting for Rise of the Dragon is Los Angeles in 2053, a futuristic world filled with high technology, cybernetics, and crime gangs. Players will explore this world as they investigate Eliza's murder and attempt to solve it. The locations are varied from dark alleys and underground hideouts to luxury apartments and government buildings. As players meet characters throughout their investigation they will gain new information about Eliza's past which may help them uncover more clues about her death.
Throughout their investigation players will also come across mini-games such as hacking computers or picking locks which require quick reflexes and strategy in order to succeed. These mini-games add an extra layer of challenge but also increase the replay value of the game as different strategies can be used each time it’s played.
Rise of the Dragon was praised for its detailed visuals and atmosphere which successfully brought this cyberpunk future world alive for gamers at home. The soundtrack was praised for its moody atmosphere which helped set up an immersive gaming experience while also drawing attention away from some of the clunkier aspects such as dated graphics or awkward dialogue choices.
Overall Rise of the Dragon is an entertaining adventure title that still holds up today thanks to its engaging story, interesting characters, and unique setting. Fans of point-and-click adventures should definitely give this one a try if they haven’t already done so!
