Tommy Lasorda Baseball is a baseball game released for the Sega Genesis Mega Drive in 1994. The game was developed by BlueSky Software and published by Sega. It was the first baseball game to be endorsed by Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda. The game features a variety of gameplay modes, such as Exhibition, Season, Playoffs, Home Run Derby, and All-Star Game. Players can choose from four different difficulty levels, including Rookie, Pro, All-Star and Hall of Famer.
The player can control up to eight teams from either the American or National League. The teams included in the game are the Los Angeles Dodgers (Lasorda's team), Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants. Each team has its own roster of players which can be adjusted before each game. The rosters are based on actual Major League Baseball teams during the 1993 season.
The game features multiple camera angles that allow players to view all aspects of the action on the field from any angle they choose. These include a close-up view of the pitcher delivering pitches and a wide-angle view that shows all players on both sides at once. Additionally, players can zoom in and out with their cameras to get closer or further away from the action as desired.
Gameplay consists of standard turn-based baseball rules with some additional features such as fielding errors and umpire decisions that affect gameplay outcomes. Players take turns pitching and batting while fielding plays are handled automatically by computer AI algorithms programmed into the game engine. Additionally there is an “Instant Replay” feature which allows players to replay key moments from any given inning for review or analysis purposes if desired.
Players have access to several statistical categories during gameplay which help them track their progress over time as well as compare their performance against other teams throughout their season or career mode games. These include batting average, ERA (earned run average), home runs hit/allowed and strikeouts thrown/recorded amongst others. The results of each match are also stored so that players can look back at past performances if needed for future reference or comparison purposes later on down the line.
Overall Tommy Lasorda Baseball is an enjoyable classic sports title that still holds up today thanks to its simple yet effective mechanics and intuitive controls scheme which make it easy for anyone new to baseball titles to pick up quickly without having too much trouble understanding how things work within its framework - making it accessible for both hardcore baseball fans who want something more challenging than basic arcade style titles but also casual gamers looking for a lighthearted yet engaging experience in one tidy package!
