Streets of Rage is a classic side-scrolling beat 'em up video game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console. It was released in 1991 and was one of the most popular games on the system. The game follows three protagonists, Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Adam Hunter, as they fight their way through the city to take down the criminal syndicate known as "The Syndicate".
The game features eight levels set in various locations around the city such as a beachfront, a factory, a construction site, and an amusement park. Each level has its own unique enemies and bosses that must be defeated before progressing to the next level. The player can choose from four different characters with different abilities and fighting styles. Axel is a powerful brawler who specializes in hand-to-hand combat while Blaze is a martial artist who uses her agility to dodge attacks. Adam is an expert at using weapons while Skate is a streetwise kid who relies on his speed to outmaneuver opponents.
Players can also pick up items such as food to restore health or weapons like knives or pipes to use against enemies. There are also special moves that can be used when certain buttons are pressed together which can help defeat enemies more quickly. As players progress through each level they will encounter tougher enemies and bosses that require more strategy to defeat them.
Streets of Rage was well received by critics upon its release due to its fast-paced action and colorful graphics. It was praised for its tight controls and responsive gameplay which made it easy for players of all skill levels to enjoy it. The game spawned two sequels which were released in 1992 and 1994 respectively but neither managed to match the success of the original game. Streets of Rage remains one of Sega's most beloved franchises even today with fans still playing it over 25 years after its initial release.
