The WWF Steel Cage Challenge is an action-packed video game released for the Sega Game Gear in 1994. Developed by Acclaim Entertainment, it was licensed by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and was based on their wrestling promotion. The game features a variety of wrestlers from the WWF roster at the time, including Hulk Hogan, Razor Ramon, Bret Hart, Yokozuna and Shawn Michaels.
The objective of the game is to win a steel cage match against one of the other characters. Players can choose from four different modes: Exhibition Match, Tag Team Match, Royal Rumble or Career Mode. In Exhibition Match mode, players can take part in a one-on-one match against another wrestler. Tag Team Match mode allows two players to team up against another tag team of two wrestlers. Royal Rumble mode features up to eight wrestlers competing in an elimination match with no time limit until only one remains standing. Finally, Career Mode has players taking part in tournaments and ladder matches to become the WWF Champion.
Gameplay is fairly straightforward; players must use various wrestling moves such as grapples and strikes to weaken their opponents before trying to pin them for three seconds or escape from the steel cage if they are trapped inside it. The controls are simple but effective; players can move around using the d-pad while pressing buttons will perform different moves depending on which direction they are facing when they press them. Special moves can be performed by inputting specific combinations of button presses while grappling your opponent.
Graphically speaking, WWF Steel Cage Challenge looks pretty good for its age; all of the characters are well detailed and animate smoothly during matches. The sound effects are also quite good with some realistic crowd noises being heard during matches as well as some catchy music playing in between rounds.
Overall, WWF Steel Cage Challenge is a fun and entertaining wrestling game that captures a lot of what made professional wrestling so popular during this period in history; it’s easy to pick up and play but still offers enough depth for experienced players who want to master its mechanics and become true champions!
