WWF Raw is an action-packed wrestling game released by Acclaim Entertainment in 1994 for the Sega Game Gear. It was based on the popular professional wrestling promotion World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and featured an array of wrestlers from their roster. The game boasted a variety of match types, including singles, tag team, and steel cage bouts. Players could choose from a selection of wrestlers including Bret Hart, Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Lex Luger and Yokozuna.
The gameplay in WWF Raw was fast-paced and easy to pick up. Players could perform a variety of moves such as punches, kicks and throws to damage their opponents. Special moves were also available for each wrestler that could be used to inflict extra damage or gain an advantage over the opposition. In addition to this, players could also use weapons such as chairs or steel cages which could be found around ringside during matches. Other features included crowd reactions that would dynamically change depending on how the match was going and interactive referees who would stop fights if things got out of hand.
The graphics in WWF Raw were quite good for its time with detailed sprites and colourful backgrounds. The sound effects were also well done with realistic crowd noises and voice samples from some of the wrestlers featured in the game. The soundtrack was very catchy too with rock/metal inspired tunes playing throughout each match.
Overall WWF Raw was an enjoyable experience for fans of professional wrestling back in 1994 and still holds up today due to its simple yet addictive gameplay mechanics. Despite not being as popular or well known as other titles from this era it still stands out due to its unique take on the sport at the time which has since been replicated by many others since its release
