Shinobi is a side-scrolling action game developed by Sega for the Game Gear system. It follows Joe Musashi, a ninja master and leader of the Oboro clan who is out to save his kidnapped students from the evil Zeed organization. The game consists of five stages, each with its own set of enemies and bosses. The player must use Joe's martial arts skills to defeat enemies and progress through the levels. He can also use special ninja techniques such as throwing shurikens and using invincibility scrolls.

The game starts off in Japan where Joe must battle his way through several ninjas before moving on to an industrial complex in America. Here he must battle Zeed robots and other robotic enemies before facing off against a giant robot boss at the end of the stage. After defeating this boss, Joe heads to the Amazon jungle where he encounters more ninjas as well as giant snakes and spiders. The fourth stage takes place in Egypt, where Joe fights mummies, scarabs, and sphinxes before facing off against a mummy king as the final boss of this stage. Finally, Joe travels to an underwater base in Russia where he fights more ninjas plus an array of aquatic creatures before battling a giant submarine at the end of this stage.

The controls are simple: players can move left or right using either of two buttons on the Game Gear controller, jump with another button, and attack with yet another button. Players can also perform special moves such as throwing shurikens or using invincibility scrolls by pressing certain combinations of buttons together (on some versions). As they progress through each stage, players will be able to collect power-ups such as health refills or extra lives that will help them along their journey.

Overall Shinobi is an enjoyable action game that offers plenty of challenge for gamers looking for something different than just another platformer or shooter game on their Game Gear system. With its unique blend of martial arts action and Japanese culture it stands out among other games available for this console and provides hours of entertainment for any fan of classic gaming.
