Paperboy 2 is a side-scrolling action game developed and published by Mindscape and released for the Sega Game Gear in 1992. The player takes on the role of a paperboy, delivering newspapers to customers along a predetermined route. The object of the game is to deliver all of the newspapers in each level without running out of time or lives. The game features a variety of obstacles that must be avoided, including dogs, cars, skateboarders, and more.
The gameplay consists of two stages: day and night. During the day stage, the player must deliver newspapers to homes along their route while avoiding obstacles such as dogs and cars. When the player reaches a house, they can press the A button to throw a newspaper into it. If successful, they will receive points for each successful delivery; if unsuccessful, they will lose one life. After completing all deliveries for a given level, the player will progress to night mode where they must collect trash cans while avoiding ghosts and other hazards. Once all trash cans have been collected, the player progresses to another level with increased difficulty.
The game also features power-ups which can be collected throughout each level; these power-ups include extra lives, invincibility stars (which allow you to pass through obstacles unharmed), time bonuses (which give extra time on each level), and money bags (which add bonus points). Additionally, there are several mini-games available throughout Paperboy 2; these mini-games include pinball machines and arcade games which can be played for bonus points when certain conditions are met during gameplay.
Paperboy 2 also includes various levels of difficulty; Easy Mode allows players to start with five lives instead of three as well as providing an alternate path that avoids most enemies entirely; Normal Mode provides no extra lives but does contain more challenging enemies and alternate paths; Hard Mode contains even more difficult enemies as well as additional bonus items that provide special abilities when used in conjunction with power-ups found throughout levels. Finally, Expert Mode provides an incredibly challenging experience with less room for error than any other mode; this mode has fewer available power-ups but provides greater rewards if completed successfully.
