The game begins with Greendog paddling his surfboard on a wave, when he spots a mysterious figure in the sky. This figure turns out to be Dr. Septic, an evil scientist intent on stealing the sacred artifacts of Greendog's people in order to build an empire. Greendog quickly sets off after him, determined to put an end to his schemes.

The gameplay of Greendog takes place over eight levels set in various locations around the world, including Mexico, Brazil, and Australia. Each level is composed of several stages where players must navigate through hazardous terrain while avoiding enemies and obstacles. Along the way, they can collect power-ups such as extra lives and health replenishments that will help them progress further into the game. Players can also collect coins which can be used to purchase items from shops found throughout each level. These items range from weapons such as swords and boomerangs to special abilities like invincibility or speed boosts that can be used when needed during gameplay.

As Greendog progresses through each level he will encounter numerous enemies such as bats, snakes, robots, and more who will attempt to impede his progress.
