Fantasy Zone Gear is an action-adventure shoot-em-up released for the Sega Game Gear in 1992. The game was developed by Sonic! Software Planning and published by Sega. It is a sequel to the original Fantasy Zone, which was released for the Master System in 1986.
The game follows Opa-Opa, a sentient spaceship with a face, as he battles against the evil forces of Menon. The objective of the game is to defeat Menon’s army and reclaim the pieces of a magical artifact known as the Fantasy Zone Gear. Throughout the game, Opa-Opa must traverse various levels filled with enemies and obstacles while collecting coins and power ups to aid him on his quest.
Gameplay consists primarily of flying around levels and shooting enemies with Opa-Opa’s laser gun. Enemies come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from small insects to huge tanks. Defeating these enemies will drop coins which can be used to buy upgrades at special shops found throughout each level. These upgrades include faster firing rate, stronger shots, extra health points and more powerful bombs that can be used to clear out large groups of enemies or destroy obstacles blocking your path.
In addition to shooting enemies, players must also complete certain objectives in order to progress through each level. These objectives range from destroying specific targets or rescuing allies who have been captured by Menon’s forces. Players are also able to collect bonus items such as extra lives or bonus points that appear at random intervals throughout each stage.
Fantasy Zone Gear features vibrant visuals and an upbeat soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro, who also composed music for other classic Sega titles such as Streets of Rage 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. The game also supports two player simultaneous play via link cable connection and has multiple difficulty levels that can be adjusted depending on player skill level or preference.
Overall, Fantasy Zone Gear is an enjoyable action-adventure shoot-em up that fans of classic Sega games will surely enjoy playing today!
