Uniracers is a racing video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1994. Developed by DMA Design and published by Nintendo, it was one of the first games to feature polygonal graphics on the SNES. The game was praised for its unique concept, visuals and soundtrack.
In Uniracers, the player controls a unicycle-riding character called a "Uniracer" which races against opponents on various courses. The objective is to complete each course as quickly as possible while performing stunts to earn points and increase speed. There are two types of courses: stunt courses and race courses. On stunt courses, players must perform tricks such as wheelies and flips to score points; on race courses, players must navigate obstacles while avoiding other racers in order to reach the finish line first.
The game features a wide variety of characters and vehicles which can be customized with different colors, decals and accessories. Players can also create their own tracks using the Track Editor mode. Tracks can be shared with friends via a link cable or through password sharing.
The soundtrack for Uniracers consists of techno-style music composed by Chris Hülsbeck. The visuals are colorful and vibrant, featuring bright hues and detailed textures that give the game a unique look compared to other SNES titles at the time.
Uniracers received generally positive reviews from critics who praised its innovative concept, visuals and music. It was also commercially successful, selling over one million copies worldwide making it one of the best-selling SNES titles of all time. Despite its success however, no sequel has been released since its original release in 1994.
