Uncharted Waters – New Horizons is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game released in 1994. It is a simulation and adventure game that follows the story of Leon, a Portuguese navigator. The player takes control of Leon and his ship as he sets sail on a grand voyage to explore the world.
The game starts off with Leon being offered a position as captain of the Santa Cruz, a ship owned by the Portuguese crown. From there, players can choose from six different paths to take: trading, privateering, exploration, treasure hunting, piracy and military service. Depending on which path is chosen, the player will be presented with different goals and objectives that must be completed in order to progress through the game.
Gameplay consists of navigating across an open-world map where players can visit various ports to purchase goods or hire crew members. Different ports offer different commodities for trade so it’s important to make sure you always have enough money to purchase what you need before setting sail on your next voyage. Along the way, players will encounter other ships they can battle against or trade with in order to further their progress in the game.
Players also have access to realistic weather conditions such as storms and typhoons that can affect their journey at sea. This adds an element of challenge as players must take into account wind direction when plotting their course and adjust their sails accordingly if they want to keep sailing safely and efficiently. Additionally, Leon can gain experience points by completing tasks such as exploring uncharted lands or battling enemy vessels which allow him to level up his character stats such as strength, intelligence and luck.
One of Uncharted Waters – New Horizons’ most unique features is its historical accuracy; many of the characters encountered throughout the game are based on actual people who lived during this time period such as Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand Magellan. This adds an interesting layer of authenticity that really immerses players in this era of European exploration history.
Overall Uncharted Waters – New Horizons offers an exciting adventure full of exploration and discovery set against a historic backdrop that makes it one of the most beloved SNES games ever made.
