Addams Family Values is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game released by Ocean Software in 1993. The game is based on the popular movie of the same name, which itself is a sequel to The Addams Family, released earlier that year. The objective of the game is for players to help Gomez and Morticia Addams restore their family values after they are kidnapped by a mysterious kidnapper.
The gameplay takes place over five levels, each one containing four stages. In each level, Gomez and Morticia must make their way through different areas of the Addams Mansion and its grounds while avoiding enemies and hazards such as falling rocks, traps and monsters. Along the way they can collect items such as keys to unlock doors and hearts which give them extra lives. As they progress through the levels they will also need to solve puzzles in order to progress further.
The graphics of Addams Family Values are quite basic but still manage to capture the atmosphere of the movie quite well with its cartoonish visuals. The music is also well done, with catchy tunes accompanying each level’s action sequences.
One unique feature of this game is its “Family Values” system; at certain points throughout each level there are opportunities for players to gain bonus points by performing acts that benefit both Gomez and Morticia or their family members such as helping Lurch clean up his room or getting Uncle Fester’s car running again. This adds an interesting dynamic to the game play as players can choose whether or not to complete these tasks in order to gain more points or continue playing without doing them.
Overall, Addams Family Values is an enjoyable SNES game that captures the spirit of its source material quite well with its simple yet entertaining gameplay mechanics and vivid visuals. While it may not be as detailed as some other games from that era, it still remains a classic title for fans of classic video games or those looking for a fun SNES adventure.
