Home Alone is an action-adventure video game based on the 1990 film of the same name. It was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1991 by THQ. The game follows the events of the movie, with players taking on the role of Kevin McCallister as he defends his home from burglars Harry and Marv.
The game is divided into two parts: a side-scrolling platformer and a top-down shooter. In both parts, players must navigate around Kevin's house and use various items to defeat the burglars. In the platforming section, players must make their way through each room while avoiding enemies and traps. They can also find items such as paint cans, toy airplanes, and snowballs to use against enemies or to unlock new areas. In addition, they can acquire special power-ups such as invincibility stars or firecrackers that allow them to temporarily become invincible or shoot firecrackers at enemies respectively.
In the top-down shooter section, players must protect Kevin's house from waves of burglars using various weapons such as water balloons, booby traps, and BB guns. As they progress through each wave of enemies, they will be rewarded with coins which can be used to purchase more powerful weapons from a shop located in Kevin's basement.
Throughout each level there are hidden bonus rooms where players can find extra lives or other useful items. Players must also collect keys scattered throughout each level in order to open locked doors leading further into each area. The aim of the game is for players to reach the end of each level without losing all their lives or running out of time before being caught by Harry and Marv.
Home Alone was well received upon its release due to its faithful recreation of scenes from the movie combined with challenging gameplay elements that made it enjoyable for both casual gamers and hardcore fans alike. The game has since become a classic amongst SNES fans thanks to its memorable soundtrack, colorful visuals and unique gameplay mechanics that set it apart from other titles released during this era.
