Fighter’s History is a fighting game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993. Developed by Data East, it was one of the earliest fighting games to feature a full roster of characters with different special moves and combos. The game was well-received by critics and gamers alike, with some praising its unique approach to the genre.
The story of Fighter’s History revolves around five martial artists from different countries who have been invited to compete in an international tournament called “Karnov World Grand Prix”. Each combatant has their own unique style and motivations for entering the tournament. The player takes control of any one character and must fight their way through seven stages, each with a unique boss character at the end.
The gameplay of Fighter’s History is similar to other fighting games released during this era, such as Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat II. Players can move their character left or right across the screen, jump in midair, crouch, block attacks, and perform various special moves and combos. There are also two buttons used for punches and kicks which can be combined into various combos as well as throws which can be used to grab opponents off guard.
The characters featured in Fighter’s History are all distinctively designed with their own background stories and personalities that are fleshed out during cutscenes between fights. The roster includes Chinese martial artist Lee Diendo, Japanese karate master Ryoko Takanae, American boxer Jean Claude Colin, Russian wrestler Zazie Muhabat, French kickboxer Claude Miguelo, Brazilian capoeira practitioner Matlok Griffiths-Jones, Jamaican reggae master King Rasta Mon, Spanish bullfighter El Blaze de León III , Korean taekwondo expert Kim Dragon and Indian dancer/magician Dhalism .
In addition to the standard single-player mode where players fight against computer-controlled opponents on each stage until reaching the final boss Karnov at the end of the tournament; there is also a versus mode where two players can battle against each other using any unlocked characters from single player mode.
Overall Fighter's History is an enjoyable fighting game that stands out among its contemporaries due to its colorful cast of characters that all come together to create an interesting plotline throughout the course of the game's story mode. While it may not have aged quite as well as some other SNES classics like Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat II; it still remains a fun title worth checking out for fans of classic 2D fighters looking for something new to try out on their retro consoles today.
