Developed by Sims Co., Ltd and published by Varie, it was one of the first Formula One games to be released on the console. The game is based on the 1993 Formula One season and features all sixteen teams and twenty-five drivers from that year. It also includes various tracks from around the world, such as Monaco, Silverstone, Estoril, Interlagos and Imola.
The objective of F1 ROC - Race of Champions is to race against other drivers and opponents to become the champion of Formula 1 racing. Players are able to choose from a variety of cars, each with their own unique characteristics and attributes. Players can also customize their vehicles with a variety of upgrades including tires, brakes, suspension and even paint jobs. As players progress through the game they will gain experience points which can be used to upgrade their car's performance.
Players can race against either computer-controlled opponents or another human player via two-player mode. The game features several different modes including Grand Prix mode where players compete in a championship season against all other drivers; Time Attack mode where players race against themselves trying to set record times; Battle Mode where two players compete against each other in head-to-head races; and Practice Mode where players can practice individual sections of any track or take part in special events like Drag Races or Endurance Runs. There is also an Options menu allowing players to adjust various settings such as AI difficulty level and weather conditions during races.
In addition to its innovative gameplay mechanics, F1 ROC - Race of Champions also features excellent graphics for its time period with detailed backgrounds depicting realistic racetracks from around the world along with vibrant colors and smooth animation for both cars and characters alike. The sound design is also quite impressive with realistic engine noises for each type of car as well as crowd cheers when passing checkpoints or finishing races at first place.
Overall F1 ROC - Race of Champions was an impressive release for its time period which successfully recreated the excitement of Formula 1 racing on home consoles while offering a variety of customization options for players to tinker around with their cars before taking them out onto the track. With its deep yet accessible gameplay mechanics combined with great visuals and audio design F1 ROC - Race of Champions remains an enjoyable experience even today almost three decades after its initial release on SNES
