Dr. Mario is a puzzle video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1990, and developed by Nintendo R&D1. The game was later released for the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, and Virtual Console. In the game, the player takes control of Dr. Mario, a doctor-like character who must eliminate viruses from a bottle by matching them with differently colored pills.
The game has two different modes of play: Story Mode and Versus Mode. In Story Mode, the player is tasked with eliminating all viruses from each level before progressing to the next. As levels become more difficult, new gameplay mechanics are introduced such as faster virus movement and additional viruses being added to the bottle. The player can also pick up power-ups which provide various bonuses such as extra points or additional pills to use in the level.
In Versus Mode, two players take turns attempting to eliminate viruses from their respective bottles while trying to hinder one another's progress by sending over their own viruses or power-ups that may have negative effects on their opponent's bottle. The first player to clear all of their viruses wins that round.
The graphics in Dr. Mario are vibrant and colorful with cartoonish sprites for Dr. Mario, his opponents (which vary depending on what mode you’re playing), and the various types of viruses found throughout each level. The music is upbeat and catchy which adds an extra layer of excitement when playing against an opponent in Versus Mode or trying to beat your high score in Story Mode.
Overall Dr Mario is a fun yet challenging puzzle game that will test your ability to think quickly and strategically which makes it great for both experienced gamers looking for a challenge as well as newcomers who want something easy to learn but difficult to master!
