AAAHH!!! Real Monsters is a 1995 video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) by Viacom New Media. The game was based upon the Nickelodeon animated series of the same name, which follows three young monsters attending an academy in the sewers below New York City. Players take control of Ickis, Oblina and Krumm, who must navigate through five levels of gameplay to collect pieces of a missing comic book. Along the way, they must avoid obstacles such as traps set by humans and other monsters.
Players begin each level on the surface of a city street at night, where they must enter buildings or sewers to find their way to their destination. The game features two-dimensional side-scrolling action with a top-down view. As players progress through levels, they will encounter enemies such as cats and dogs that can be defeated by jumping on them or using special powers such as fire breath or ice breath. They can also pick up items such as garbage cans which can be used to block enemies or reach higher platforms.
The objective in each level is to collect all five pieces of the missing comic book before time runs out. Each piece is hidden in an area that can only be reached by using special abilities or items found throughout the level. Once all five pieces have been collected, players must make their way back to the exit before time runs out. In addition to collecting comic book pieces, players are also rewarded points for defeating enemies and finding bonus items throughout levels.
AAAHH!!! Real Monsters features vibrant graphics and music from the television show that remain true to its source material while providing intense platforming action for fans of the series. The game also provides plenty of challenge for experienced gamers due to its difficult platforming segments and various enemy types that require different strategies for defeat. Overall, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters is an enjoyable entry in both the SNES library and Nickelodeon’s vast collection of video games based on its popular cartoons.
