WCW World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was a professional wrestling video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

Developed by Rare and released in 1989, it was based on the National Wrestling Alliance's (NWA) World Championship Wrestling (WCW) promotion.

It was the first professional wrestling game released for the console and one of the earliest WWF/E licensed games, predating WWF WrestleMania by two years.

The game featured a roster of all-time favorites such as Ric Flair, Sting, Dusty Rhodes, The Road Warriors, and The Four Horsemen.

It also featured a unique control scheme which allowed players to execute moves more easily than on other consoles of the era.

Players could choose from six different match types including singles matches, tag team matches and battle royals.

There were also several bonus features such as an interview segment with Gordman Solie and a Hall of Champions mode where players could compete to become WCW Champion.

Gameplay consisted of three rounds in each match with up to four wrestlers per round.

The player had access to over 50 moves which could be used to weaken opponents or set up finishers.

Finishing moves included signature maneuvers such as Dusty’s “Bionic Elbow” and Ric Flair’s “Figure Four Leg Lock”.

Matches ended when either time ran out or one wrestler was pinned or submitted three times.

The player could fill their meter by executing special moves or getting attacked by their opponent which would allow them to use their finisher for an instant win.

In addition to single player mode, WCW also featured two-player versus mode where two players could square off against each other in any match type they chose.

This mode was particularly popular among friends who enjoyed playing together at home or at local arcades.

Despite its age, WCW still remains fondly remembered by many NES fans today due to its innovative controls, entertaining gameplay, and iconic roster of wrestlers from that era.

It has since been re-released on various digital platforms including Nintendo's Virtual Console service which allows it to be played on modern systems such as the Wii U or 3DS XL consoles.

In conclusion, WCW World Championship Wrestling is an iconic title from the early days of Nintendo gaming that still stands out today thanks to its innovative controls and deep roster of wrestlers from that era.

While it may not be as popular as some more modern titles it is still held in high regard by many retro gamers who appreciate its tight gameplay mechanics and fun atmosphere that make it great for both solo sessions or competitive multiplayer matches with friends at home or at local arcades
