Shingen The Ruler is an action game developed by Koei and released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1988. The game was released in Japan as “Shingen no Yabou”, which translates to “The Ambition of Shingen”. It is a turn-based strategy game set in feudal Japan during the Sengoku period. Players take on the role of Takeda Shingen, a warlord who seeks to unite all of Japan under his rule.

The objective of the game is to conquer all other provinces and castles within the map while maintaining control over your own domain. To do this, players must manage their military forces, resources, and alliances with other powerful warlords. In addition to managing these aspects of their kingdom, players must also be aware of their enemies’ strategies and movements on the battlefield in order to outwit them and emerge victorious.

Players begin by selecting one of four difficulty levels: easy, normal, hard, or very hard. Each level increases the strength and number of opponents that you will face as well as the amount of resources available for use at any given time. After selecting a difficulty level, players are then presented with a map that displays all 48 provinces across Japan that they must battle for control over. On each turn, players can move their armies around the map and attack enemy forces or recruit new units from friendly territories. When attacking an enemy province or castle, battles are fought using either melee combat or ranged weapons such as archers or gunpowder weapons depending on which type of unit is used for attack. Combat is resolved using a rock-paper-scissors style system where some units have an advantage over others based on their range or type of weapon they wield.

In addition to managing military forces and resources throughout the campaign, players are also able to develop technology such as muskets or cannons which can be used against enemy forces during battle; build defensive structures like walls around castles; create alliances with other powerful warlords; construct roads between provinces; hire ninja spies; and even sabotage enemy troops with floods or fires! As players progress through the campaign they will gain fame points which can be used to purchase new abilities such as increased movement speed for troops or better defense bonuses against ranged attacks from artillery units.

Overall Shingen The Ruler is an incredibly deep and strategic game that tests your wit and ability to think several steps ahead at every turn! It provides an engaging challenge that rewards careful planning and foresight while still allowing room for improvisation when needed most!
