Rollerblade Racer is a NES game released in 1990 by Konami. It is a racing game that allows up to two players to compete against each other. The objective of the game is to race around a track, collecting power ups and avoiding obstacles while trying to beat the opponent.
Players take control of a rollerblading character which they can customize with different clothing and accessories. The player must make their way around the tracks, which consist of several loops and jumps, while collecting various power-ups such as speed boosts, invincibility stars, and lightning bolts. As the player progresses through the levels they will encounter various obstacles such as ramps, blocks and other racers that must be avoided in order to maintain their speed. As well as competing against an opponent, players also have to contend with an AI-controlled racer who will attempt to outrun them at all times.
The game features an overhead view of the track and controls are relatively straightforward with A used for acceleration, B for jumping and Start used for pausing or selecting options. The graphics are colourful and detailed with some nice animation on the characters’ movements while skating around the track giving it a realistic feel. The sound effects are upbeat and cheerful adding some atmosphere to the game but unfortunately there’s no music during gameplay.
Overall Rollerblade Racer is an enjoyable racing experience with plenty of replay value thanks to its unique power-up system and challenging AI opponents. It may not be one of Konami’s most popular titles but it certainly deserves more recognition than it gets from fans today due to its solid gameplay mechanics and charming visuals making it worth checking out if you haven’t already done so!
