Mitsume ga Tooru is a classic platformer video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Developed by HAL Laboratory and released in Japan in 1992, it was one of the first games to feature a 3D-style environment. The game’s title translates to “The Three-Eyed One Passes Through”.
The player assumes the role of Nyamco, a three-eyed creature who must navigate through several levels while avoiding enemies and collecting items. The game consists of four worlds filled with hazards such as spikes, lava, and bottomless pits. In each world, the player has to reach the end of the level while gathering all of the gold coins scattered throughout it. Once all of the coins have been collected from a particular world, Nyamco can then move onto the next world.
Nyamco can jump and attack enemies by throwing stars at them. He also has an energy bar that depletes when he takes damage or falls into a pit or lava. When this happens, Nyamco will lose a life and start over again from his last checkpoint. As Nyamco progresses through each level he will find power-ups such as extra lives and invincibility stars that make him temporarily invincible to damage.
The graphics in Mitsume ga Tooru are quite basic but still quite colorful and detailed for an NES game. The sound effects are also quite minimal but effective enough to make playing enjoyable.
Overall, Mitsume ga Tooru is an enjoyable platformer video game for the NES that offers a unique 3D perspective on side-scrolling levels along with some challenging gameplay elements that require skillful maneuvering and timing to get past them successfully. It may not be as popular as some other NES titles but it definitely stands out from its contemporaries due to its unique approach to level design and its charming visuals.
