Mermaids of Atlantis - The Riddle of the Magic Bubble is one of the most beloved games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Released in 1989, this action-adventure game was developed by Pack-In-Video and published by Toho. It is one of the few underwater-themed games for the NES that has stood the test of time.
The game follows an unnamed protagonist who is tasked with finding a magical bubble that will grant him access to the lost city of Atlantis. Along his journey, he must battle various creatures and solve puzzles in order to progress further into his adventure. The player controls their character through a side-scrolling perspective, swimming and jumping through obstacles while avoiding enemies and traps.
One of the unique aspects of Mermaids of Atlantis is its use of mermaids as an integral part of its story and gameplay. The player can find various mermaids throughout their journey, some friendly and some hostile, all with unique abilities which can be used to help or hinder progress in certain areas. For example, some mermaids have powerful attacks which can be used to defeat enemies or activate switches; others provide hints about where to go next or how to proceed further into the game.
The overall goal is to locate four pieces of a magical bubble which will grant access to Atlantis when combined together. Throughout his journey, the player must battle various sea monsters including jellyfish, octopi, sharks, and more. Players also have access to several power-ups such as invincibility stars and special weapons like fireballs that allow them to overcome obstacles they may encounter on their quest.
Mermaids of Atlantis also features two different endings depending on how players choose to interact with certain characters throughout their adventure. If players make it all the way through without any mistakes or missteps they will be rewarded with an ending showing them entering Atlantis with a beautiful mermaid at their side; however, if players make too many mistakes they will instead receive an ending showing them being cast out from Atlantis forevermore.
Mermaids of Atlantis – The Riddle of the Magic Bubble stands out amongst other NES titles as an entertaining yet challenging experience that requires players’ quick thinking and problem solving skills in order to succeed. Its creative use of mermaids as both allies and adversaries makes it even more interesting than other similar titles available on the system at that time; not only does it require skill but also strategy in order for players to achieve a successful outcome. With its beautiful graphics and captivating soundtrack, Mermaids of Atlantis – The Riddle Of The Magic Bubble remains a timeless classic worth playing even today!
