Mappy is an arcade game developed and released by Namco in 1983. It was the first game to feature the company’s signature character, Mappy. The game has since been ported to multiple platforms, including Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1986.

Mappy follows the adventures of a police mouse whose job is to retrieve stolen items from the home of burglars known as Meowkies. These Meowkies are based on cats and they live in a mansion filled with various obstacles such as doors, trampolines, and conveyor belts. The player must guide Mappy through the mansion while avoiding contact with the Meowkies and their weapons. If Mappy comes into contact with them, he will lose one of his lives and must start again from the beginning of the level. The goal of each level is to collect all of the stolen items before time runs out or all of Mappy’s lives are lost.

The NES version of Mappy features improved graphics over its arcade counterpart as well as several new elements that make it more challenging. For example, there are now two kinds of Meowkies: Pink ones that move horizontally, and blue ones that move vertically. Additionally, there are now four types of bonus items that can be collected for extra points: bells, umbrellas, televisions, and safes. Finally, there is also a bonus round at the end of each stage where players can earn even more points by collecting coins while dodging Meowkie projectiles.

The gameplay in Mappy is straightforward but challenging due to its fast-paced nature and numerous obstacles placed throughout each level. However, its simple controls make it easy for players to pick up and play quickly without having to invest too much time learning how to play it properly. This makes it especially appealing for casual gamers who want something fun yet easy to understand without having to spend too much time mastering it beforehand.

Mappy remains one of Namco’s most popular titles due its entertaining gameplay and charming visuals which have stood the test of time since its initial release in 1983. Its iconic character has also gone on to appear in other Namco games such as Pac-Man World 2 (2002), Pac-Man World Rally (2006) and Galaga Legions DX (2010). Furthermore, various ports have been released across multiple platforms including iOS devices in 2012 allowing fans both old and new to experience this classic title whenever they wish.
