Magic Darts is a sports-style video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1989. The game was released in Japan as Super Darts, and was one of the earliest titles to be released on the NES.
The objective of Magic Darts is to throw darts at a dartboard, aiming for the highest score possible. Players take turns throwing three darts at a time, with each dart assigned to a different color on the board. The player’s score is determined by how close their dart lands to the center of the board, with higher scores awarded for closer throws. Additionally, players can earn bonus points for hitting special targets that appear on certain boards.
The game consists of three single-player modes—Classic Mode, Challenge Mode, and Tournament Mode—as well as two two-player modes—Versus Mode and League Play. In Classic Mode, players compete against each other or against an AI opponent in a series of nine rounds in which they must try and reach the highest score possible within five minutes. In Challenge Mode, players must complete specific objectives while playing against an AI opponent or competing against another player in Versus Mode. The Tournament mode allows up to four players to compete against each other in a tournament setting and League Play allows up to eight players to play together over multiple rounds.
Magic Darts also features several power-ups that can be used during gameplay such as wind gusts that can blow darts off course or “magic darts” that will automatically hit their target. Additionally, there are various obstacles scattered throughout some boards that can make it more difficult for players to hit their targets accurately. The game also includes several bonus stages where players must hit specific targets within a limited amount of time in order to earn additional points.
Overall, Magic Darts is an entertaining and challenging sports-style video game that tests players’ skill and accuracy when throwing darts at a dartboard. With its varied modes and power-ups, it provides plenty of fun for both single-player and multiplayer sessions alike.
