Karate Champ is a classic martial arts fighting game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1984.

The game was developed and published by Data East and was the first competitive fighting game to feature two players taking turns playing against each other.

Karate Champ features a variety of characters with different abilities, as well as multiple stages with different obstacles that must be overcome to win each match.

The objective of Karate Champ is for one player to defeat their opponent using various karate moves such as punches, kicks, blocks, and throws.

Players can also use their special moves, which can be activated when the opponent's life bar is low enough.

Each round is won by either knocking out the opponent or having more points than them at the end of the round.

If both players have an equal amount of points at the end of a round, then a tie-breaker will occur where both players must perform a series of predetermined moves before time runs out.

The controls in Karate Champ are relatively simple and intuitive; players use the D-Pad to move around and A & B buttons to execute attacks and special moves respectively.

The graphics are fairly basic but still manage to capture the look and feel of a real martial arts arena quite nicely.

As for sound effects, there isn't much to speak of apart from some basic punching sounds which help add to the atmosphere.

Karate Champ quickly became popular amongst gamers due to its unique premise and intense gameplay; it also helped pave the way for future fighting games such as Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat.

Despite its age, Karate Champ still stands up today as an enjoyable classic that can be appreciated by fans of both classic gaming and martial arts alike
