Hollywood Squares is a classic video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Released in 1988, it was one of the first games to feature play-by-play commentary. The game was developed by Rare, Ltd and published by Hi-Tech Expressions. It was based on the popular TV game show of the same name.

The objective of Hollywood Squares is to be the first player to get three squares in a row, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Players take turns selecting a square from the nine available and answering questions asked by their opponents. If they answer correctly they get that square and if not then their opponent gets it. The first player to get three squares in a row wins.

The game features two modes: single-player mode and multi-player mode. In single-player mode, players compete against an AI opponent who takes turns selecting squares and asking questions. In multi-player mode up to four players can compete against each other for control of the board.

The game also features several different types of questions ranging from general knowledge, sports trivia, pop culture trivia and more which require players to think quickly and answer accurately in order to win control of the board. There are also bonus rounds which allow players to earn extra points or gain control over additional squares on the board.

Hollywood Squares has a colorful art style with cartoonish characters representing various celebrities such as Burt Reynolds, Donny Osmond, Hulk Hogan and more who give witty responses when asked questions during gameplay. The sound design is also quite good with upbeat music playing while playing as well as sound effects for certain actions such as when someone answers incorrectly or when a square is taken over by another player or AI opponent.

Overall Hollywood Squares is an enjoyable retro gaming experience that stands out due to its unique mix of play styles (single player vs multiplayer) and variety of question types that appeal to both casual gamers and hardcore fans alike. Although some may find it dated compared to modern games today it still remains an enjoyable classic with plenty of replay value that will keep you coming back for more!
