Fire Emblem Gaiden is a tactical role-playing game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1992.
It is the second installment of the Fire Emblem series and was developed by Intelligent Systems.
The game takes place in an unnamed fantasy world populated by humans, dragons, and other creatures.
Players take control of two main protagonists, Alm and Celica, who fight against the forces of evil to restore peace to their homeland.
The game follows a linear plotline with multiple branching paths as dictated by the player’s choices during battle.
As with most Fire Emblem games, players must strategically manage their units on a grid-based battlefield while fending off enemy forces.
The primary objective is to defeat all enemies within each chapter while keeping friendly units alive; if all friendly units are eliminated before completing the level, it's game over.
Fire Emblem Gaiden introduces several unique mechanics not present in previous games such as item management and unit promotion.
Items can be found throughout levels or purchased from shops; these items can be used to heal injured units or provide them with stat boosts.
Units can also be promoted when they reach certain levels; this grants them access to more powerful weapons and abilities which can turn the tide of battle in their favor.
In addition to its strategic combat system, Fire Emblem Gaiden also features an RPG-style character development system which allows players to customize their characters’ growth rate and equip them with various weapons and armor sets that can affect their stats in battle.
This encourages players to experiment with different builds for their characters in order to find the optimal combination for their playstyle.
The story follows Alm and Celica as they embark on a journey across Valentia - a continent divided into two warring nations - in order to put an end to an ancient conflict between dragons and humans known as “The War of Deliverance”.
Along the way, they meet many allies who join their cause and help them uncover secrets about Valentia’s past which will ultimately lead them towards victory against evil forces threatening peace on the continent.
The Fire Emblem series has become one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises since its release back in 1992; it has spawned numerous sequels, remakes, spin-offs, manga adaptations, anime series', etc., allowing fans around the world to experience its deep strategic gameplay and captivating story elements again and again over time.
Fire Emblem Gaiden remains one of its most iconic titles due to its innovative mechanics which helped shape modern tactical RPGs today; it is well worth playing for any fan of strategy games looking for something fresh yet familiar!
