Bubble Bobble is a classic video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) that was released in 1986. It is a single or two-player action platformer that follows the adventures of two dragons named Bub and Bob who live on Rainbow Island. The goal of the game is to traverse through 100 different levels while collecting items, defeating enemies, and ultimately rescuing their girlfriends from the evil Baron von Blubba.
The gameplay in Bubble Bobble involves navigating a two-dimensional level while avoiding enemies, collecting power-ups, and shooting bubbles at them to trap them inside. Once all enemies are trapped, they become food which can be collected for points. When enough points are collected, players can progress to the next level. Each level contains a variety of hazards such as spikes, pits, and waterfalls which must be avoided to progress further.
Players can also collect power ups throughout each level which provide various benefits such as increased speed or invincibility. There are also bonus levels which appear after certain levels have been completed where players can gain extra lives or points by completing tasks such as defeating bosses or solving puzzles.
Bubble Bobble has been praised for its simple yet addictive gameplay mechanics and its catchy soundtrack composed by Akira Takizawa and Yasuaki Fujita. It has gone on to become one of the most iconic games for the NES with numerous sequels being released over the years including Super Bubble Bobble (1991) and Bubble Symphony (1993). The game has also been ported to many other platforms such as PC, Game Boy Advance (GBA), PlayStation 2 (PS2), Nintendo DS (DS), Wii U, iOS and Android devices.
