It is based on the novel of the same name written by Bram Stoker, as well as its film adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
The player takes control of Jonathan Harker, who must battle through seven levels to save Mina from the clutches of Count Dracula. The levels are set in Transylvania and feature various locations from the novel such as Castle Dracula and a gypsy camp. The levels involve various enemies such as bats, zombies, werewolves, and other creatures of the night. The player must also collect items such as garlic, crucifixes and holy water to help them progress through each level and ultimately defeat Dracula himself.
The graphics for Bram Stoker’s Dracula are quite good for an 8-bit game, with detailed environments and characters that stay true to their source material. The music is also fitting with some catchy tracks that will keep you motivated during your journey.
The controls are simple enough to pick up quickly but challenging enough to keep you engaged throughout the entire game. You have a variety of weapons at your disposal including swords and axes which can be used to defeat enemies or break blocks that may be blocking your path. In addition to this, there are powerups scattered throughout each level which give you temporary invincibility or increase your attack power.
Overall Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a great platformer for the NES that captures all the elements of its source material while providing fun gameplay mechanics and challenging levels that will keep you coming back for more. If you enjoy classic platformers or just want something different from your usual fare then this is definitely worth checking out!
