The objective of Beetlejuice is to help Lydia and her family escape from their home in a haunted house. To do this, players must complete various tasks throughout the course of the game. As they progress further into each area they will find items that allow them to gain access to previously inaccessible areas or solve puzzles necessary for progressing further into a level.
Beetlejuice also features several boss battles against large monsters at certain points during levels which require players to use strategy in order to defeat them. It also has an inventory system where players can store items found throughout their journey as well as equip weapons for use in battle against foes encountered along their travels. The game also includes both a password feature that allows players to save their progress as well as a two-player mode where two people can play cooperatively with one another on separate controllers - this feature requires both players to have a copy of the game cartridge though.
