Bad Street Brawler is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up video game released by American Technos in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game is set in a city and the player takes control of one of three street fighters, Billy, Jimmy, or Joe. The objective of the game is to battle through a series of gangs and defeat their leader, a giant mutant named Mr. Big.
The gameplay consists of moving from left to right while beating up thugs along the way. Enemies will come at the player from both sides and must be defeated before they can move on. Players can use punches, kicks, and special moves to take down enemies. Special moves can only be used once per level and require players to hit certain buttons in order to activate them; each character has four different special moves that can be used throughout the game.
Players are also able to pick up weapons such as bats, chainsaws, and sticks that can be used to defeat enemies quickly or even break certain objects like doors or windows. These weapons are limited however so players must use them wisely as they cannot be replenished during levels. Power-ups such as coins or extra health can also be picked up throughout levels which will help players survive longer against tougher enemies.
The graphics in Bad Street Brawler are very basic but still colorful enough to make it enjoyable to play. The music is upbeat and fits well with the action on screen while sound effects are simplistic but effective enough for what they need to do.
Overall Bad Street Brawler is an enjoyable beat ‘em up title that offers some simple yet satisfying gameplay and would have been enjoyed by fans of this genre back in its time. It may not have aged particularly well due to its simplicity but it still offers some good fun for those looking for a classic NES brawler experience..
