All-Pro Basketball is a basketball video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1988. Developed by Rare and published by Tradewest, All-Pro Basketball was one of the first basketball games to be released on the NES.
The game allows players to control either a team of five professional players or their own custom team. The roster of professional players includes stars such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley. The custom team can be created from any combination of eight different player types. The eight types are: point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, center, rebounder, defender and shooter. Once a team has been selected, they can compete against other teams in a number of different game modes.
The main game mode is the single-player season mode which consists of 25 regular season games followed by playoffs and championship matches. Players can also choose to play exhibition games with up to two teams or practice their skills in various mini-games such as shooting contests and dribbling drills.
All-Pro Basketball features multiple difficulty levels which allow players to adjust the level of challenge they face when playing against computer opponents. Additionally, there are several customizable options available including court size and weather conditions which allow players to tailor their experience to their preferences.
In terms of graphics and sound effects All-Pro Basketball was considered impressive for its time with detailed sprites representing each player type as well as realistic sound effects that enhance the overall atmosphere of the game.
Overall All-Pro Basketball is an excellent example of a classic basketball video game for the NES era and still holds up today thanks to its engaging gameplay mechanics and variety of options available for customization. It remains one of the best basketball games on Nintendo’s 8 bit console due to its deep gameplay and replay value ensuring that it will continue to be enjoyed by gamers both old and new alike for years to come.
