Ultima - Runes of Virtue is an RPG video game developed by Origin Systems and released for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1993. It is based on the popular Ultima series of computer games, which began in 1981. The game follows the adventures of a young hero as he searches for eight runes scattered across the land of Britannia. The player must battle monsters, complete quests, and solve puzzles to acquire the runes and ultimately save the kingdom from evil forces.
In Ultima - Runes of Virtue, players take on the role of a hero who has been summoned to Britannia by Lord British to help him protect his kingdom from three powerful villains: Mondain, Minax, and Exodus. To do so, they must search for eight magical runes that are hidden throughout the land. The runes each have special powers that will help them defeat the villains and restore peace to Britannia. Along their journey, players will encounter monsters, solve puzzles, talk to NPCs (non-player characters), and explore dungeons in order to find all eight runes.
Combat in Ultima – Runes of Virtue takes place in real-time with turn-based elements. Players can use various weapons such as swords and bows to fight enemies or cast spells like fireballs or lightning bolts to deal damage from afar. Additionally, players can also use items such as healing potions or antidotes to help them survive difficult battles.
The game features an expansive world filled with towns and villages where players can talk to NPCs and pick up quests or items from shops. There are also numerous dungeons filled with traps and puzzles that must be solved before reaching their destination. As players progress through the game they will gain experience points which can be used to upgrade their character’s stats such as strength or intelligence.
Once all eight runes have been collected, players must face off against each villain one at a time in order to restore peace back into Britannia. After successfully defeating all three villains they will be rewarded with treasures beyond their wildest dreams!
Ultima – Runes of Virtue was well received upon its release due its fun gameplay mechanics and engaging storyline that kept players hooked until the very end. Its classic RPG elements combined with its unique setting made it stand out amongst other games on the Game Boy platform at the time and still remains an enjoyable experience today for those looking for an old-school adventure title on a modern console!
