Joe & Mac - Caveman Ninja is a classic side-scrolling platformer video game developed and published by Data East for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1991. The game was based on the arcade game of the same name, but with some changes made to make it more suitable for home gaming consoles.
The premise of Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja is simple: two cavemen named Joe and Mac must save their village from a group of invading dinosaurs. The player controls one of the two characters as they traverse through numerous levels, fighting off various kinds of prehistoric enemies and rescuing their fellow villagers along the way. Each character has their own unique set of abilities; Joe can throw boomerangs while Mac can use his club to attack enemies. Both characters can also jump, climb ladders, swim underwater, and ride various animals such as pterodactyls and mammoths.
The game features a total of six stages in which players must complete before reaching the final level. Each stage contains several levels filled with platforms, obstacles, collectibles, and enemies that must be defeated in order to progress further. In addition to this, each stage also features its own boss fight at the end which must be defeated in order to move on. After completing all stages, players are rewarded with an ending sequence depending on how many points they have accumulated throughout their journey.
Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja is often praised for its colorful graphics and catchy music which add a lot to its overall charm. Its gameplay is also quite enjoyable thanks to its variety of moves and power-ups which help make each level a little different from the last one. Despite being released over 25 years ago, Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja still remains popular among retro gamers due to its simple yet engaging gameplay mechanics that still hold up today.
