Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone is the third installment in Technos Japan’s Double Dragon series. It was released for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1991, and it follows the same basic premise as the previous games in the series. Players take control of Billy and Jimmy Lee, two martial artists who must fight their way through various levels filled with enemies. The game features improved graphics and sound compared to its predecessors, as well as an expanded range of moves and weapons.
The story begins shortly after the events of Double Dragon 2: The Revenge. After defeating the Shadow Warriors gang, Billy and Jimmy return home to find that their beloved Marian has been kidnapped by a mysterious group known as “The Rosetta Stone”. As they search for her, they travel to Egypt, China, and Japan to battle their way through hordes of enemies in hopes of rescuing her. Along the way they will have to face off against a variety of bosses, including a robotic samurai and a powerful ninja master.
Gameplay-wise, Double Dragon 3 builds upon what made its predecessors so successful while introducing some new features that add even more depth to the experience. Players can now pick up items such as rocks or barrels that can be used as weapons or thrown at enemies. They can also purchase items from shops scattered throughout each level such as health potions or extra lives. Additionally, there are four different fighting styles players can choose from which determine what special moves they can use during combat; these include karate, judo, ninjutsu, and tae kwon do.
One of Double Dragon 3’s most unique features is its ability to link up with other Game Boys through a special cable (sold separately). When connected this way two players can team up together for cooperative play or compete against each other in head-to-head battles. This adds an extra layer of excitement to an already intense game experience that makes it stand out from other beat ‘em ups on the market at the time.
Overall Double Dragon 3 is an excellent addition to Technos Japan’s popular series. Its improved visuals and sound give it a modern feel while still retaining much of what made its predecessors so enjoyable; plus its co-op mode allows you to team up with a friend for some intense two player action! If you are looking for an old school beat ‘em up experience then this is definitely one worth checking out!
