Cool Spot was a classic video game released for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1993. Developed by Virgin Games, it was based on the popular 7 Up mascot of the same name. The objective of the game is to help Cool Spot, a seven-dotted red circle, collect all of his scattered spots throughout each level. Along the way, players must avoid various enemies and obstacles as they make their way to the end of each stage.
The gameplay of Cool Spot is similar to many other platformers from its time period. Players take control of Cool Spot and must use his jump ability to traverse platforms and navigate through levels filled with enemies and obstacles. There are seven levels in total, each with its own unique layout and enemies. As players progress through each level they will find various items that can be collected for points or power-ups that can help them along their journey.
Each level culminates in a boss battle where players must defeat a larger enemy before moving onto the next stage. The bosses range from large spiders to giant robots and each has their own unique attack pattern that must be avoided in order to defeat them. After defeating a boss, players are rewarded with one of Cool Spot’s lost spots which he needs to collect in order to move onto the next level.
In addition to regular platforming action, Cool Spot also includes some puzzle elements as well. Throughout each level there are hidden doors that can only be opened by collecting all of the dots within an area or solving certain puzzles such as pushing blocks around or finding hidden switches. These puzzles add an extra layer of challenge for those looking for something more than just running and jumping throughout levels.
The graphics in Cool Spot are bright and colorful which helps give it an inviting atmosphere despite its difficulty at times. The music is also quite catchy, further adding to the overall charm of this title. It’s easy to see why this game was so popular when it first released back in 1993; even today it holds up surprisingly well thanks to its solid platforming action and enjoyable visuals/audio design.
Overall, Cool Spot is a great title for anyone looking for some classic side scrolling action on their Game Boy system. With simple yet challenging gameplay mechanics combined with an inviting art style and soundtrack, this title still offers plenty of fun today despite being over 25 years old!
