Alien vs Predator - The Last of His Clan is a side-scrolling action-adventure game developed by Natsume and published by Activision for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1992. It is based on the popular science fiction franchise created by filmmakers James Cameron and David Giler. The game follows the story of Machiko Noguchi, a human mercenary hired by Weyland-Yutani Corporation to investigate an archaeological site in South America. She soon discovers that the ancient ruins are home to a deadly species known as the Yautja, or Predators, who have come to hunt her and her team. As Machiko, players must battle their way through hordes of aliens and predators while trying to uncover the secrets of the ruins.
The game features five levels that take place in a variety of environments including jungles, temples, caves, and even underwater areas. Players must utilize an arsenal of weapons such as laser guns, flamethrowers, and grenades to fend off their enemies while searching for power-ups such as health packs and energy cells. In addition to battling aliens and predators, Machiko will also encounter various traps throughout her journey that will require quick reflexes in order to avoid them.
As Machiko progresses through each level she will gain access to new weapons which can be used against stronger alien enemies or predators with more powerful armor. Additionally, she can upgrade existing weapons with special attachments found throughout levels or purchased from vendors located at specific points during the game. Once all five levels are complete players will face off against a boss character known as “the last of his clan” who has been sent by his people to exterminate humanity from Earth once and for all.
The graphics featured in Alien vs Predator – The Last of His Clan are fairly basic but still manage to capture the atmosphere of the film series quite well with detailed sprites representing both Machiko and her enemies. The music is also fitting for this type of game with tense tracks playing during intense battles between aliens and predators alike. Overall Alien vs Predator – The Last Of His Clan is an enjoyable experience that fans of the franchise should not miss out on playing if they enjoy classic action-adventure games from the early 90s era.
