The Smurfs Nightmare is a classic platformer from the Nintendo Game Boy Color that can be considered a hidden gem.
It was released in 2001, but it still stands out as one of the better games on the system.
The game follows the story of Papa Smurf who is trying to save his village from an evil spell cast by Gargamel.
The game has five levels which each have their own unique challenges and enemies.
The first level is set in a forest that leads up to the castle where Gargamel lives.
This level introduces players to some of the basic mechanics such as jumping and attacking enemies with your smurfy hammer.
As you progress through this level, you'll encounter new enemies such as spiders and bats, as well as some tricky traps and puzzles.
The second level takes place in Gargamel's castle, which is filled with even more dangerous enemies and obstacles.
Players will need to make use of their newfound abilities such as double jumps and wall jumps to get past these obstacles and reach their goal at the end of the level.
This includes battling against giant robots, navigating mazes, and avoiding being crushed by moving walls.
Level three takes place in a graveyard where players must navigate their way through haunted tombs while fighting off ghosts, zombies, and other creatures of the night.
Again, platforming skills are tested here as players must jump over spikes and dodge deadly traps while making their way towards the end of this level.
Along with all these obstacles are some mini-games such as finding hidden items or collecting coins scattered around each stage for bonus points at the end of each level.
Once you've made it past these three levels you'll reach Level four which takes place inside a volcano full of molten lava pits and fiery monsters.
Here you'll need to make use of your special abilities such as fireballs or ice blasts to defeat enemies or cross deadly gaps in order to reach your goal at the end of this stage.
You'll also need to solve various puzzles using switches that open doors or activate platforms throughout this level before reaching its conclusion.
Finally Level five brings everything together in an epic battle against Gargamel himself who has transformed into a giant dragon! Here you'll need to make use of all your skills acquired throughout this game to defeat him once and for all! If successful, you will be rewarded with a cutscene showing Papa Smurf freeing his village from Gargamel's spell before walking off into a peaceful sunset with his fellow smurfs singing happily in celebration! Overall, The Smurfs Nightmare is an excellent platformer for anyone looking for something different on their Game Boy Color console that offers plenty challenge along with its charming visuals & music! With its variety of levels featuring unique obstacles & enemies plus mini-games sprinkled throughout each stage there's something here for everyone!
