The Pokémon Gold Version for the Nintendo Game Boy Color was released in Japan on November 21, 1999 and in North America on October 15, 2000. This game was the second installment in the Pokémon series and is a sequel to Pokémon Red and Blue Versions. Players take control of a young trainer as they explore the Johto region while capturing and training various species of Pokémon. The main goal of the game is to complete the Pokédex, a catalog of all known Pokémon species, by collecting and trading them with other players.
Players can choose from one of three starting Pokémon when beginning their adventure: Cyndaquil (a Fire-type), Chikorita (a Grass-type), or Totodile (a Water-type). As players progress through the game, they will also encounter wild Pokémon that can be captured with Poké Balls. These wild Pokémon will vary depending on which area players are exploring. Once captured, they can be trained to evolve into more powerful versions of themselves by gaining experience points from battle wins or using special items such as Evolution Stones or Technical Machines (TMs).
As players progress through their journey, they will come across several cities that contain important locations such as Poké Marts where items necessary for training can be bought; Gyms where powerful trainers must be defeated in order to obtain Gym Badges; and Day Care Centers where friendly NPCs will take care of up to two different kinds of Pokémon at a time. Trainers may also find themselves facing off against members of Team Rocket—the antagonists of this game—who are attempting to steal rare Pokémon for their own evil purposes.
In addition to exploring the main quest, there are many side quests that players can embark upon such as competing in Bug Catching Contests held at National Park or participating in races at Goldenrod City’s Bike Path. A new feature introduced in Gold Version is the ability to link up with another player’s Game Boy Color system via infrared communication or cable connection for trading items or battling against each other’s teams. Furthermore, after completing certain tasks, players may even access secret areas where rare items or strong Legendary Pokemon await them!
Pokémon Gold Version is an amazing adventure sure to delight any fan of the series! With its improved graphics compared to previous installments, larger selection of available creatures to capture, expanded story line featuring Team Rocket’s nefarious schemes, and various mini games and side quests scattered throughout Johto—this game offers hours upon hours worth of entertainment value for all ages!
