Jeff Gordon Team XS Racing is a racing game released for the Nintendo Game Boy Color in 2001. It was developed by Digital Eclipse Software and published by THQ. The game features NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon as a playable character, along with his team of racers.
The goal of the game is to win races against other teams and drivers in order to gain points and unlock new tracks and cars. Players can also upgrade their cars with better parts and equipment. The game features five different race modes: Championship, Single Race, Time Trial, Arcade, and Two-Player Mode. In Championship mode, players compete against other teams in a series of races to accumulate points and become the champion. In Single Race mode, players can choose any car from their garage and race against computer opponents on any track available. Time Trial mode allows players to practice their driving skills by racing against the clock on any track available. Arcade mode gives players the opportunity to race against computer opponents on any track without having to worry about accumulating points or unlocking anything. Finally, Two-Player Mode allows two players to link up via a Game Link Cable (sold separately) and battle it out on any of the tracks available in the game.
In addition to the single player modes of play, Jeff Gordon Team XS Racing also includes an array of multiplayer options that allow up to four players to link up via a Game Link Cable (sold separately) for some intense head-to-head competition. Players can also customize their own car before each race using money earned from winning races or completing special tasks like drifting around corners or drafting behind other racers. Money can also be used to purchase upgraded parts such as tires, engines, brakes, suspension systems, paint jobs, spoilers etc., which will give your car an edge over your opponents’ vehicles during races or Time Trials.
The graphics in Jeff Gordon Team XS Racing are quite good for a GBC title; featuring colorful 3D visuals with smooth animation that creates an immersive racing experience that looks surprisingly realistic at times. The sound effects are also quite impressive; featuring realistic engine noises along with music from classic rock bands like Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin that helps get you into the racing mood before each race begins!
Overall Jeff Gordon Team XS Racing is an excellent racer for its time; offering plenty of content for both single player fans as well as those looking for some intense multiplayer action with friends via a Game Link Cable (sold separately). If you’re looking for some good old fashioned arcade style racing fun on your Game Boy Color then this title should definitely be on your list!
