Tales of Phantasia is a classic role-playing game (RPG) for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Developed and published by Namco, it was released in Japan in December 2001 and in Europe and Australia in November 2002. The game is part of the Tales series, which includes games like Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia.
The story follows Cress Albane, who is a young swordsman from a small village called Totus. When his mentor, Dhaos, disappears after a battle with an unknown force, Cress sets out on a quest to find him. Along the way, he meets other characters including Arche Klein, Mint Adenade, Chester Burklight and Claus F. Lester. Together they must travel through time to save their world from destruction by the evil forces of Dhaos.
Gameplay in Tales of Phantasia revolves around exploring various locations on the map screen as well as participating in battles against monsters or other enemies. During battle sequences players control one character at a time while issuing commands to the other party members using an action menu system. As characters gain experience points they can increase their stats as well as learn new skills such as magic spells or special attacks. In addition to this there are also mini-games which can be played throughout the game for rewards such as items or money.
One unique feature of Tales of Phantasia is its Linear Motion Battle System (LMBS). This system allows players to move freely around the battlefield rather than having all characters remain stationary during combat like many other RPGs at the time did. This adds an extra layer of strategy to battles as players must consider where best to place each character for maximum effect when attacking or defending against enemies.
Tales of Phantasia also has an extensive soundtrack composed by Shinji Tamura which features over 70 tracks ranging from rock and techno music to more traditional orchestral pieces that set the mood for each area explored by Cress and his friends during their journey. The game also features voice acting during cutscenes which help bring its characters to life even further making it one of the most immersive RPGs available on the Game Boy Advance platform at the time of its release.
Overall Tales of Phantasia is an excellent RPG experience that offers hours upon hours of gameplay combined with beautiful graphics and soundtracks that make it stand out amongst similar titles available on Nintendo’s handheld console at that time period . It remains popular today amongst fans who continue to enjoy its engaging storyline and challenging battles even after more than two decades since its original release date
