The NFL Blitz series of football video games has been around since 1997 when the original game was released for the arcades.
Since then, the series has become a staple in the gaming world with its over-the-top and fast-paced gameplay.
The most recent installment, NFL Blitz 2002 for Nintendo Game Boy Advance (GBA) continues this tradition while adding some new features and improvements to make it one of the best versions of the game yet.
For those unfamiliar with the NFL Blitz series, it is an American football simulation that focuses on intense and high-octane action rather than realistic physics or strategy.
Players control teams from all 32 NFL franchises as they battle against each other in seven-on-seven matches.
Instead of playing a full eleven against eleven match like in real life, players are limited to seven players per team which speeds up gameplay significantly and makes it much more exciting.
The core mechanics remain largely unchanged from previous iterations, with responsive controls allowing players to easily execute moves such as passing, running, tackling, and even performing special plays like defensive interceptions or offensive touchdowns.
You can also perform turbo boosts to increase your speed momentarily or use power ups such as speed bursts and super tackles which can give you an edge over your opponents.
One major improvement present in NFL Blitz 2002 is improved graphics compared to earlier versions of the game.
The GBA's limited hardware capabilities meant that earlier titles had pixelated visuals but this time around they have been given a noticeable upgrade making them look much better on screen.
This includes both player models and stadiums which now feature detailed textures and animations that help bring the action alive on screen.
Another major addition to NFL Blitz 2002 is a new single player mode called "Road To The Super Bowl".
In this mode players create their own custom team from scratch by selecting their desired players from an extensive list.
Once you have assembled your squad you must compete in regular season matches before entering into playoff tournaments where you will eventually face off against real teams from the actual NFL in order to win yourself a coveted trip to the Super Bowl itself! Finally, there are various multiplayer modes included allowing you to challenge friends either locally via link cable or online via Nintendo's Wireless Adapter accessory (sold separately).
Online play allows for up to six players at once so you can really get competitive with your friends no matter how far away they may be! Overall, NFL Blitz 2002 is an excellent entry into the longrunning football video game series that offers plenty of intense action along with some great improvements over its predecessors such as improved graphics and new single player modes.
Whether you're looking for a chaotic game night with friends or just want something fun to play solo, this GBA version of NFL Blitz 2002 is sure to provide hours of entertainment!
