Final Fight One is an action-packed side-scrolling beat ‘em up game released for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance in 2001. Developed by Capcom, Final Fight One is a remake of the classic arcade game Final Fight, which was originally released in 1989. The game follows the story of former professional wrestler turned mayor Mike Haggar as he teams up with his daughter Jessica and her boyfriend Cody to take down the Mad Gear Gang and save Jessica from their clutches.
The game features a variety of levels set in different parts of Metro City, each with its own unique enemies and level design. Players can choose between playing as either Haggar or Cody, each with their own unique fighting style and abilities. Haggar has more powerful attacks but less range while Cody has more mobility and faster attacks. The player must battle through hordes of enemies including gang members, thugs, robots, mutants, and even bosses on their way to the end of each level.
Gameplay involves using various attack combinations to defeat enemies and progress through levels. Players can also pick up weapons such as pipes or swords to use against enemies for extra damage. Special moves can be performed by inputting specific button combinations which can be used to increase damage or stun enemies temporarily. Once all enemies have been defeated in a stage, players are rewarded with bonus points which can be used to purchase items from shops found throughout the game such as health restoratives or weapon upgrades.
Final Fight One features multiple difficulty settings which change enemy AI patterns and strength making it accessible for both seasoned beat ‘em up veterans and newcomers alike. There is also a two-player cooperative mode where two players can team up together locally via link cable connection allowing them to work together to progress through levels more quickly than if playing alone.
Overall Final Fight One is an enjoyable action-packed side-scrolling beat ‘em up that stays true to its roots while adding some new elements that make it stand out from other games in the genre. The visuals are vibrant with detailed sprites for characters and environments creating an immersive experience while the classic soundtrack adds an extra layer of nostalgia for fans of the original arcade game. With accessible controls and multiple difficulty settings there’s something here for everyone regardless of skill level making Final Fight One one worthy successor to Capcom’s classic franchise.
